Staniel Cay
Another great day in paradise! We went ashore to walk around the little town and poked into some shops. We found fresh vegetables and fruits and bought some as the stores on Dagny are getting low. We even found some ice cream which we ate before it melted! The stores here have names but are called “the blue store” or “the pink store” depending on the color of the building. Once again, everyone we encountered was happy and pleasant.
We then returned to Dagny to wash, dry, and stow the produce we had purchased. Everything brought onto the boat must be washed to avoid those crawling and flying stowaways that like to attach themselves to fresh produce that has traveled through many hands to get to this remote island.
We were invited to join the skipper of a Caliber 38 sailboat to compare notes on our boats and notes on good places to explore in the Bahamas. He and his wife have been spending winters down here for over 10 years. His boat is 38’ compared to Dagny’s 33’ length so he is the much bigger sister to our little Dagny. It was great to see his boat and the improvements he had made to it.
Our evening was spent at a fundraiser for a local at the town pavilion. We enjoyed the local BBQ and rum cake dessert and swayed to the island vibe of live music. We also enjoyed the company of a couple who own a Caliber 47: the largest of the Caliber fleet. Another fun evening of swapping tales of life and sailing.
Whew, what a trip. Must be beautiful down under Skip I
