George Town, Exumas

Our final days in George Town were truly delightful as we spent time with friends both old and new as well as doing some exploring on our own.

We enjoyed an evening on s/v Mahayana with her crew and the crew of s/v Dark Horse. It was one of those evenings where, although we haven’t known each other long, we all felt like we had been friends for years.  Lots of laughs, good food, and some mean dark and stormy cocktails.

We also got to reconnect with the good folks from s/v Gypsy. We had met them weeks ago and have since rendezvoused at several anchorages. We are looking forward to our next meeting in the off-season in Colorado!

Finally, we did some much-needed cleaning, laundry, and provisioning including filling our drinking water jugs and getting gas for the dinghy motor. The trip to the gas station required docking our dinghy on a very precarious dock made of wood pallets and rotting beams. Yikes!

George Town was a lot of fun. So different from the other places we’ve been in the Bahamas. Its reputation of being like summer camp for cruisers sure held true. Lots of hiking, beach volleyball, beach yoga, and a fun beach bar complete with swings hanging from the trees and boat kids running everywhere.

This morning at sunrise we pulled anchor and are now officially heading north. We had a nice sail off the wind with the sails “wing on wing” to give us a little more speed. Tonight we are anchored in another beautiful spot in 11’ of crystal clear turquoise water.
