December 22-23 Beaufort, SC to St. Augustine, FL

We successfully made another ocean passage. This time from Beaufort, SC, to Jacksonville, FL, and then on to St. Augustine, FL; it was 168nm (nautical miles) in a little over 30 hours.

We decided to hop out into the Atlantic because transiting Georgia on the ICW can be tricky. The tides there are 9’ which makes for challenging anchoring and challenging navigation with the swift current ebbing and flowing on the ICW.

Our passage was mostly uneventful which is how we like them! The wind and waves were from behind pushing us along down the Georgia coast. We saw a couple of ships, but for the most part had that little corner of the ocean to ourselves. We each took a 5-hour watch during the night so the other could rest, and the autopilot did a stellar job of keeping us on course.

As predicted, when the sun rose so did the wind and waves. We decided to duck in at Jacksonville and take the ICW from there to St. Augustine. It was a little roly coming into Jacksonville but nothing we couldn’t handle.

We are happily anchored in St. Augustine resting and waiting for winds to settle before we move farther south. ❤️⛵️

 Beautiful night sail

The red shows our course. The pink stars are bailout points in case we need to get off the ocean. The blue squiggly line is if we had stayed inside on the ICW.
