Dagny is Ready for the Rivers

Today was a LONG day! We worked from sunrise to sunset pulling the mast and securing it on deck.

After a quick stop at Panera to get some bagels for the boatyard crew, we headed downtown. We figured it was a good idea to have a happy crew helping us to do this thing we had never done before. We dropped off the bagels and left a car full of extra tools and wood at the marina then we headed to the Sailing Center to get Dagny from her mooring to motor up the river to the marina.

We arrived at the marina and tied up to their dock without incident. Then we went about loosening all of the side stays (wires that hold the mast up) and putting the finishing touches on the cradle supports that would hold our mast as we make our way south.

The usual crane was out of commission so they had to use the big crane to pull the mast, move it back, and slowly lay it on the deck cradles. There were a few tense moments, but overall it went smoothly. Then we set about securing the mast to the cradles to ensure it was not going anywhere.

Now we are a very LONG 51' motor boat until we get to Mobile, AL!
