Charlotte's Web
Herons, bald eagles, and deer thrive along the miles of this river nesting, fishing, and coming to the water’s edge for a drink. These beautiful creatures make us pause, proclaim their presence, and allow us to snap a photo. While they are amazing to behold, we encountered something a few days ago that I have been struggling to describe.
Remember at the end of Charlotte’s Web when Charlotte’s babies are born and they float away on gossamer strands of web? It was like that but for miles and miles we were surrounded by such silvery strands. They seemed to circle the sun, shimmering against the azure sky, then ignore gravity as they floated just above the water. We marveled at how truly beautiful it was to be surrounded by those swirling and dancing threads. In the end, every line of our boat was streaming with silver as if Dagny were decorated in all her finery for a parade.
We stand in awe of the beautiful nature around us, but some of the smallest creatures created a surreal scene in which we, ourselves are thriving along these miles and miles of river. “...this lovely world, these precious days…” ~ E. B. White
Thanks for sharing, in elegant prose, the beautiful scenes from your journey on the rivers of middle America. Muddy waters have their own treasures to behold for those who take the time to notice. I'm keeping watch for you here in Huck Finn territory. Give me a days out holler. Keep on floating!
We are reading the last chapter of CW tonight. Perfect timing. ;) Praying for your safety and fun. xo
Benjamin loves hearing about all of your adventures. He especially loved today's blog about CW as he is reading it with Mrs. Jansen :). With all the nature and animals that you are seeing, he is truly in awe of all that you get to witness (you know how much he loves animals ;). Safe travels to you both! Thank you for sharing your adventures with us!
We are happy to share! Say hello to Benji for me!
These updates are great! Living vicariously through your stories is a great escape. Keep on boating, Peter and Amy. Hopefully the carp are staying off your craft. They almost seem to want to jump into my canoe when on the river.
We’re thankful for how you describe the Beauty of the creatures you’re experiencing - and conveying - on your journey. Spiders aren’t ‘exciting’ for some of our family crew, but they are beautiful creatures - I think? You’re Eggert Amazing!
